Let’s be real: trying to focus on International Management when your brain is wired for choreography and colour palettes is a struggle. Between the “scroll of doom” on Instagram/YouTube shorts and the pressure of finishing my postgrad, finding effective exam preparation can feel like a full-time job. Whether it’s the time pressure or just trying to balance my history-loving heart with my business-focused mind, staying focused is hard. But don’t worry-I’ve cracked the code. These aren’t your basic, boring study tips; these are realistic, “Zen G” approved methods that actually work for me.

Creating a study routine that works for me
As someone with a background in History and a passion for graphics, my routine isn’t a rigid 9-to-5, it’s a masterpiece. I’ve learned that I’m a morning person; my brain is sharpest when the light is just right for sketching. I usually keep my study sessions to about 90 minutes of deep work. Consistency matters way more than pulling an all-nighter that leaves you looking like a zombie. It took me a few months into my MSc to realize that a consistent study routine for exams is the only way to keep my creative sanity intact while mastering effective exam preparation. Setting clear, manageable goals

When I need to sharpen my brain or take a tactical focus break, I hop onto LinkedIn. But I’m not scrolling; I’m playing mini-Sudoku and other LinkedIn games. It’s a high-brow way to keep my logic gears turning without the social media brain rot. Using active revision techniques
Because I do graphics, I can’t just read a textbook; I need to see it. I use mind maps and summaries that look like professional infographics. If I’m struggling with a concept, I teach it out loud to my imaginary audience, it’s basically a performance. Beyond my own experience, clinical studies have shown that Bhramari Pranayama effectively reduces anxiety and induces a parasympathetic ‘rest’ state in students.” I’ve also been so lucky to have incredible support from my professors and my PAT (Personal Academic Tutor) at University of Southampton Delhi. They’ve reminded me that progress matters more than perfection. Balancing health with effective exam preparation is the ultimate way to stay focused while studying.
