New Delhi: The University of Southampton Delhi has partnered with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to introduce the Experience AI educational programme in India, aiming to equip school students and teachers with foundational knowledge of artificial intelligence through free learning resources.

The initiative marks the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s first partnership of its kind in India and seeks to strengthen AI literacy among school students by providing educators with research-based teaching materials.

Under the programme, the university, in collaboration with Tatras Data, plans to train nearly 400 school educators over the next year, who will in turn deliver AI lessons to around 8,000 students across public and private schools.

Experience AI, co-developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, offers lesson plans, presentations, videos, classroom activities and assessments designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence. The programme also includes modules on AI safety and responsible use, including protecting personal data.

The partnership was formally launched at an event on July 13, where representatives of the University of Southampton Delhi and the Raspberry Pi Foundation outlined their plans to expand AI education in schools.

The University of Southampton Delhi said AI modules have already been integrated across its academic programmes to ensure students develop the skills to use the technology responsibly. Through the new initiative, it aims to extend similar learning opportunities to the school education sector.

Academic Provost Professor Eloise Phillips said artificial intelligence is transforming the world rapidly, making it essential for young people to understand both the technology and its responsible application. She said the partnership would help teachers confidently introduce AI concepts in classrooms while preparing students for an AI-driven future.

Raspberry Pi Foundation Chief Executive Philip Colligan said the collaboration would support teachers in delivering engaging and relevant AI education and help young people in India develop a foundational understanding of the technology.

According to the organisers, teachers in more than 190 countries have already downloaded Experience AI resources, which are designed to help students explore AI applications, understand career opportunities and address real-world challenges through technology.
