Press Release: University of Southampton Delhi Announces Acceptance of SAT Scores as a Complementary Component for Undergraduate Admissions

New admission route opens doors for Indian students seeking globally benchmarked education

National, 19th January 2026:  University of Southampton Delhi has announced the acceptance of SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) scores as a complementary component in its undergraduate admissions process, starting with the 2026 academic intake. This move aims to provide greater flexibility and accessibility to students aspiring to pursue global quality higher education within India.

Recognised among the top 100 universities globally (QS World University Rankings 2026), University of Southampton Delhi offers a range of internationally benchmarked undergraduate programmes. The inclusion of SAT scores demonstrates academic readiness and aligns with global admission practices followed by leading international universities.

Speaking about the decision, Professor Eloise Phillips, Academic Provost, University of Southampton Delhi, said, “We are committed to creating inclusive pathways for bright, motivated students from across India and beyond. By including SAT scores as a complementary indicator, we are providing applicants with more ways to showcase their abilities. This reflects our belief in a fair, inclusive, and globally aligned admissions process that looks beyond marks to the person behind the application.”

Over the past decade, the SAT has steadily grown in relevance among Indian students applying to institutions in India and abroad. College Board has expanded test access across the country by increasing test centres, transitioning the assessment to a digital-first format, and introducing student support initiatives such as device lending and free preparation resources, aimed at ensuring broader access and fairness in testing.

Commenting on the development, Ms. Meenakshi Kachroo Chatta, Senior Director and Regional Head – South Asia, College Board, said: “We often hear from students that they want a fair way to show what they are capable of, regardless of where they have studied. The SAT gives them that opportunity by offering a common benchmark across boards and schooling systems. It is encouraging to see University of Southampton Delhi allowing students to include SAT scores alongside other academic achievements as part of a broader admissions process.”

The Delhi campus offers undergraduate programmes such as BSc (Hons) Business Management, BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance, BSc (Hons) Economics, BSc (Hons) Computer Science, BSc (Hons) Creative Computing and BEng (Hons) Software Engineering designed to equip students with globally relevant knowledge and industry-ready skills.

The inclusion of SAT scores allows applicants to present a more holistic academic profile alongside school grades and other achievements. For students from varied education boards across India, this provides an additional, standardised way to reflect academic preparedness and readiness for an internationally benchmarked university environment.
