What you will study

This degree will suit you if you want to drive change, and make both business and society better. Each year is made up of core, compulsory and optional modules and optional modules begin from the second semester itself.

Year 1 overview

Compulsory modules will explore current management ideas from a variety of perspectives. You’ll study how commerce, industry and technology have developed, within a broader social and historical context. You’ll also learn about core management and financial accounting, and develop practical management skills.

Year 2 overview

Compulsory modules will develop your understanding of management and organisational theory, and business research. The second  year envisages that students select six optional modules, or three out of four modules in a semester.

You’ll choose from optional modules that cover topics such as:

  • entrepreneurial management
  • innovation, technology and the environment
  • making successful decisions

We’ll also teach you the research skills needed to complete your dissertation in year 3.

Year 3 overview

In part 3, a year-long dissertation or business project runs along with 6 modules to ensure the rigour of an Honours degree.

You’ll also choose optional modules covering areas such as:

  • marketing in the digital age
  • international business
  • information, organisation and accountability from a historical perspective

Programme structure

Our compulsory modules provide a solid grounding in the theory of business management. They show you how to apply your skills to real-world settings. You’ll also choose optional modules that reflect your personal interests or future career options.

The Programme Description Document contains an overview of the programme, its aims, information on programme modules and shows how we assess student progress as they learn with us.

As a research-led University, we undertake a continuous review of our programmes to ensure quality enhancement and to manage our resources. As a result, this programme may be revised during a student’s period of registration; however, any revision will be balanced against the requirement that the student should receive the educational service expected. We encourage students to make their application to study at University of Southampton Delhi as soon as they can. This means we can issue an early Conditional Offer and that students will have the best the chance to meet their offer conditions. If demand is high, we may choose to close applications earlier than mentioned, but students with Offers to study would receive preferential treatment.

We encourage students to apply as soon as possible so that they can receive a Conditional Offer based on predicted scores for their chosen programme. We can accept an application from a student using their predicted grades if we receive their final grades once they are available.

An Honours degree, shown with (Hons) in the programme title, mean that students will understand the fundamentals of their discipline and then build specialisation and perspective through optional modules. These fast-paced, intense programmes deliver essential learning in the first academic year and offer optional course modules, or electives, in the second year. Honours degrees are offered at University of Southampton campuses across the world, reflecting teaching and learning to a higher academic standard, meaning that an Honours degree would hold more value post graduation for future study and career development.

Degrees with a BA and BSc award do not represent a stream, but a broad categorisation that reflects student choice and leaning. Our BSc (Hons) and BEng (Hons) undergraduate degrees are oriented towards specialist, technical roles in industry with an analytical approach, not science subjects.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has mandated University of Southampton Delhi to make sure that programmes delivered in India are the same as those delivered at University of Southampton in the UK. Three years is the standard length of an undergraduate Honours degree in England where University of Southampton sets academic standards. This 3 year length reflects a trend towards accelerated learning where students see a return on their tuition fees as quickly as possible, whilst still maintaining high academic standards and the quality of the degree awarded. University of Southampton 3 year undergraduate degrees, and 1 year postgraduate degrees, are accepted widely internationally.

Our programmes are designed to make sure that students quickly understand the fundamentals of their discipline, and then build specialisation and perspective through electives, or optional, modules. These optional modules are typically offered in academic years 2 and 3, adding depth and breadth to core learning from previous years. As these options are often built around real-world trends, the specific choice of module available to students from year to year may vary.
